IIM Shillong have been created with a vision of expansion and mobilization of facilities for the training of good quality and the research in the northeastern region of India. The decision, an Indian Institute of Management were introduced into the northeastern unanimously adopted by the Minister for Human Resources Development, together with the Ministers of the Northeastern States during the review meeting in Shillong in June 2004. Shillong has been developed as a permanent location for the institute after consultation between the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (Doner) and the Prime Minister of the States of the region
